       The speaker, Rtn. Bijoy Antony Jose spoke about different aspects of Green Computing, and artificail intelligence, and their possible impact on society in the future.

       Ccombined classification talk by two Rotarians, Rtn. Jax Zacharias, and Rtn. Bijoy Antony Jose. The first speaker, Rtn, Jax Zacharias spoke about Children and Internet. He spoke in detail, how children can be gullible to unscrupulous predators on the net, and fall into unhealthy habits of accessing websites, not suitable for children. He gave a few tips for parental guidance. The second speaker, Rtn. Bijoy Antony Jose spoke about different aspects of cyber security, and how anyone can be adversely impacted by cyber criminals. He gave some practical tips on remaining safe from cyber crimes.

       The Speaker, Rtn. PP Binesh Sukumar, a prominent Archtect of Kerala, spoke about the relevance of Public Gardens and their design aspects in general and brought out a specific case of Vadakunathan Temple – Trichur. He elucidated the practical difficulties in managing stake holders in such high profile sites, and how stake holder interests might often be at cross purposes, needing extreme care in all stages of the project.

       The Speaker, Rtn, PP, Dr.Sunil Mathai, spoke eloquently on the subject “ Management of Post Flood Medical Issues” a theme which is very relevant in the context of the incidents of unprecedented flooding of several parts of Kerala. In his presentation, Dr Sunil Mathai covered several aspects in relation to large scale flooding incidents in known history, and their impact on human lives and property. Impact of floods on human population, are based on Engineering Studies and Reports. He also spoke about Post Flood Trauma, and possibility of breakout of diseases.

       The speaker Dr. Nirmala Padbhanabhan, Associate Professor, St Theresas’ College spoke about the- “ Role of families in in reducing plastic waste and alternatives to plastic carry bags.” She shared certain social initiatives on the matter involving schools, social self help groups etc, in a big way. She also exhibited certain plastic free carry bags which are environmentally friendly, while at the same time trendy as well.

    Weekly Meeting


      Weekly meeting held on 25th February 2017 The meeting this week was special, it was a family meeting held to welcome and greet the newly weds Annette Nimisha (daughter of Past President Rotarian Benny Zacheriah) & Roshan . Vice president Rtn. Akhilesh Agarwal presided over the meeting in the absence of President Rtn. Anil Joseph. In attendance was 46 Rotarians along with their families. The Rotary information Talk on ‘Role of District Governor in Rotary’ was delivered by Rtn. Jayabal Menon. After the announcements by the Vice President, Rtn, Vinu Varghese felicitated the newly weds and the Past presidents were called forward along with club service to handover the club’s gift to the newly weds. Rtn. Binesh gave a feed back on ‘Utsav” and participation of the club for the event. Rtn. Madhav Chnadran also gave a feed back on the Rotary Diustrict Conference and his acceptance of DG nomination for the year 2019-20. VP Called upon Roshan, to speak a few words about his first experience in downtown after which vote of thanks was delivered by secretary and the meeting was adjourned for the reception programs organized by Rtn. Benny and Lucy.

      While the conference witnessed keynote addresses by a galaxy of Speakers coupled with the entertainment session led by singer Rimy Tomy later in the evening, the highlight and the show stopper was Rtn PHS Madhav Chandran, who gave his acceptance speech after being officially declared as the District Governor Nominee Designate.

      Cancure Foundation laid the foundation stone for a palliative care building for the destitutes at Njarakkal. After that a meeting was organised at the Conference hall of Goverment Hospital, Ernakulam followed by an awareness talk and screening camp at Government Hospital itself. During the meeting Cancure Foundation honoured the Rotary Clubs who have contributed to the medical well being of the needy and have specifically supported the needs of Government Hospital Ernakulam, especially for the treatment of Cancer Victims. The program also included a free lunch which was jointly sponsored by the Rotary clubs involved for all the patients and bystanders of General Hosptial.

      The Rotary Information talk was delivered by Rtn. Bijoy on the topic ‘Vocational Service’. The President then took over and updated the club on the events held this week that included a brief on the Training Programme scheduled for the masons under the Vocational Training Programe, the final plans on the construction of ladies toilets under ‘Parivarthan’ and the construction of the waiting shed at Karikattuthuruthu which is planned to be inaugurated during the DG visit. After that the speaker of the day, Akilesh, was invited to the dais and he was welcomed by Dr. Benny Paul. Akilesh, thereafter, spoke about “Investments trends and Ideas for 2017”

Later, the President in his remarks updated the club on the events held that week which included a Polio immunisation programme, Providing book racks for a Library being sponsored by our member and MLA, Hibi Eden, a career development programme and installation of Rotaract at SRV school. Introduction of the guest speaker was done by Rtn. Nandini. The guest speaker for the day was Gayatri Asokan and she spoke about ‘Healthy Weight Loss with Principles of Nutrition’. It was a very informative program which was well appreciated by the members present.

  • Tour de Rotary- K2K Cycle rally


      The Rotary Foundation Centennial Cycle Rally titled "Kashmir to Kanyakumari Swach Bharat - Tour de Rotary" initiated by Rotary Club of Madras Midtown in association with Rotary Clubs in India reached Cochin on 7th December. The Cochin event was jointly organised by Rotary Clubs of Cochin Beachside, Cochin Downtown, Kalamassery, Cochin Queencity, Tripunithura and Cochin Uptown. The flag off from Kochi to Kollam on 8th December from Durbar Hall Ground was done by District Governor Dr.Prakash Chandran and Hon. Mayor of Cochin Corporation Smt. Soumini Jain.
